Writing assignments 

I retain full copyright to all documents I write until and when I transfer the rights to them; no rights will be transferred until I have received the agreed payment in full. Unless agreed otherwise, as soon as full payment has been credited to one of the accounts specified below, the work becomes a client’s exclusive property. Notwithstanding, clients give me permission to display my work in my portfolio including a portfolio website under the doctrine of “fair use,” as long as:

• I do not sell reproductions of the work;
• I credit the rights holder; and
• I am not violating any non-disclosure agreement with the rights holder.

Editing & proofreading work

Clients submitting material for service retain copyright to such material. I do not claim any rights to such material by virtue of supplying my services, and will not use or disclose such material for any reason other than providing my service. You represent and warrant: that you own or otherwise control all of the rights to the material that you submit for service; that use of the material you supply does not violate this policy and will not cause injury to any person or entity; and that you will indemnify me for all claims resulting from material you supply. I have the right but not the obligation to monitor and refuse any activity or content. Furthermore, I take no responsibility and assume no liability for any material submitted by you or any third party. I provide advice on changes that you may accept, reject, or further amend. The content of any finished work is therefore entirely the responsibility of the client or other persons to whom the client delegates, licenses, or otherwise assigns control over his/her work. My work on any documents does not imply any endorsement of its content or the author.

Legal research, writing, and translation services

Despite being a fully qualified German lawyer, I do not practise law anymore. Hence, I do not act as your attorney under any circumstances. My services are those of a consultant or translator only, and my work products do not constitute a legal opinion or legal advice; they are prepared solely for your private use and are not a substitute for the advice of a licensed attorney.

Revisions

On fixed-priced contracts, translation and writing assignments include two rounds of revisions. Please note that a revision covers typographical, grammar or syntax errors, as well as minor changes to style, tone and content. Requests to rewrite or add substantial new content, or to change the format or structure of the document, are not revisions and may incur additional charges. 

Invoicing 

Unless European clients provide their VAT number and full company address, I won’t be able to work on their projects.

Upfront payment & payment method

I accept payment via PayPal or bank transfer. I will provide the necessary payment details upon the conclusion of a contract.

Unless agreed otherwise, no work will be performed until an upfront payment of 50% has been credited to my PayPal or bank account.
